This is a Vintage Starbucks cup - you know the one with with the 'real' old logo? Where the mermaid has her 'lets do the splits with my lovely double tail sailor boy' thing going on.
Anyway - I use this oversized mug for keeping the shorts in. I like the way it looks from the top. All those pretty colours mixed up in a random way. Inspires me from time to time.
the leftover rods sometimes get tossed in here when I'm in a hurry to clean up and don't want to take the time to figure out what colour they are and put them back into their proper cubbyholes.
The best part about this is digging though it. The rods kinda of ring a bit when you dig thought them. And the Venetian colours are so beautiful to sort though. It's like digging for treasure. I always find myself a bit more inspired after a bit of search through the rod box. So it makes for a good way to break out of that 'oh what will I make today' funk.
Most of my rings are make for sea glass inspired colours. Blues, greens and clears. The kind of colours you commonly find washed in from the sea. So this bright candy orange is a real departure for me. Not pale and subtle in the slightest. This colour selection came into play as a result of a customer request. She suggested a ring in a brighter shade - I made a few and they just popped! I had to make more, I was hooked on the brighter more intensified colours. Thank you - that was a great suggestion. It really, really helped me move beyond the little colour rut I got myself into. Cheers!
So now I have a big box of rings. Time to pack them up and send them off to their new homes. And it's time for us to start packing too - and find a new home as well. Yay. Spring brings change. Nice refreshing change.
Earth Day is coming and this year I've decided to make my packaging more environmentally friendly. So no more bubble mailers. Unbleached or Recycled envelopes with just a bit of bubble wrap around the package. I'd like a heavier and more sturdy envelope than the ones I'm currently using. There is plenty of reusable bubble wrap in my studio but eventually I'll have to go and buy some more.
Don't think this is the perfect solution but it's worth a try. It's weird, but I never really thought about the impact of bubble mailers. Hilary in Victoria mentioned that she pulls them apart and I got to thinking about whether they were recyclable or not. I saw the little recycled logo and assumed they were. Now I'm starting to think that just means they are made or recycled paper and that makes me feel a bit stupid. Because I thought it was to good to be true. Should have known better but I wanted to believe. Silly me, time to change.
